Christmasflair at Schloss Bodelschwingh

Did you know that Dortmund has its own castle? It is situated beautifully next to the water. If you are visiting Dortmund on the first weekend of December, you are very lucky because the castle will open its gates to visitors because of a christmas market which is taking place. Approximately 100 exhibitors will offer their products.

Medieval Light Christmas Market (PLWM)

For example; the popular light christmas market at Fredenbaumpark. You will be able to see fire shows, listen to old music and watch jugglers doing their profession. On top of that, you can go christmas shopping at the market.

Winterglow

Wow, ahh, pretty – these are the typical reactions during „winterglow“-season at Westfalenpark. Every year when the leaves are falling and it gets cold, the park changes into a festival of lights. Instead of leaves, light projections in various colours give the trees their shape and beauty. Of course, you can also get something warm to drink. Very romantic!

Tour the Stadium at Night during „Rasenleuchten“

Dortmund’s soccer stadium is the biggest in Germany with the biggest stand in Europe. The stand is called the yellow wall. In case you do not have tickets to see a game – which we highly recommend – you can still see the stadium during a tour which is offered in German, English, Polish and Chinese. There is a special tour before christmas which gives you the unique opportunity to visit the stadium when it is dark. The 2 h tour starts at 7:09 pm (due to our soccer team’s name: BVB 09) and includes a hot drink.

When: daily at 7:09 pm; starting on December 2nd; ending on December 30th (Attention! Not on match days, christmas eve and Christmas)

Marten during Advent

Dortmund is a big city with many districts. Most of them celebrate their own christmas markets. You do not need to live in the district to attend. One example for such a festivity is the advent market in Marten. Many institutions, clubs and businesses have booths at the market which is located close to the school museum.

Christmas Exhibition: Best of Christmas at MKK

Lightning of the Lights due to Hanukkah

Many winter events deal with christmas. Of course there are other festivities to think about as well. One of these is Hanukkah. The Jewish community is going to light candles close to the Phoenix See (lake) on December 9th. There will also be music.

Dortmund’s Christmas Market

46499096_353820682019300_1630537527372808192_n45 meters tall, illuminated by 48.000 lights and centerpiece of the christmas market: The gigantic christmas tree of Dortmund lures thousands of people in the city every year.

In addition to awing at the tree, you can eat and shop at 300 booths or visit some of the market’s specials. Next to the church St. Reinold’s you will find one: a fairytale village with dolls. Next to the church St. Petri-Kirche is a puppet theater stage.

Advent Event „Art & Glogg“ at the Depot

Grogg, waffles and almonds sound delicious to you? If your answer is „yes“, the advent event at the depot might be interesting for you. It includes a booth as well as the chance to take a look at art works. On December 6th you can listen to a fairy tale.

BVB- Sing along

Leuchte auf, mein Stern Borussia - Dortmund singt Weihnachtslieder

Dortmund’s soccer stadium is the biggest in Germany and well known for Europe’s biggest stand „Yellow wall“ and its amazing atmosphere. You can experience it on Dezember 16th – for once not during a game but when more than 30.000 people will sing along to christmas songs (most of them in German). We bet this is the biggest choir you have ever participated in!
